Michael R. Cummings founded Cummings Construction Corporation in February 1995, relying on his previous 23 years construction experience. Under his leadership and direction as the sole stockholder and President of Cummings Construction Corporation, the company has been recognized as the 16th fastest growing privately held business in the Southern Piedmont by the Business Journal in 2000. In 2001, Cummings Construction Corporation was a finalist for the Ethics in Business Award presented by the Charlotte Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and as a top builder by CECO Corporation for its annual sales volume.
He received both his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 and his Masters in Business Administration degree in 1980 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The Vietnam Era veteran served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1970. His tenure in the Air Force instilled the discipline, organization, and planning skills necessary to manage multiple construction projects simultaneously and complete each of them in a professional and timely manner. He has also been a national arbitrator panelist with the American Arbitration Association since 1984. He has applied his core value of fairness, not only in his work as an arbitrator, but more importantly, he has embedded that basic principle throughout the Cummings organization.
He is married to Bernadette Cummings, a registered nurse, and is very proud of his two grown sons and four grandchildren.
